Rowdy “Legove” Lewing is a Dutch B-Boy and musician. Although he was exposed to many different musical styles during Battles and Jams, it was the energetic drum breaks that left the deepest impression on him. This understanding of complex rhythmic patterns and percussion is one of the key ingredients shaping both his dance and his music today.
“I’ve been dancing for a very long time, about 25 years. At eight years old, I was breakdancing. It’s still the foundation of my dance, but it has transformed into something more spiritual.” His movements flow in every direction, sometimes seated, sometimes standing. “I dance with my whole body, in the way I feel I need to move. To really explain it, I would actually have to write a book, because it comes from deep within me. It’s not easy to sum up in just a few words. I meditate a lot, so yes, it’s quite spiritual. I don’t dance under the influence of an emotion, so it’s not because I feel sad or angry that I adjust my movements accordingly. I try to dance life, as it comes.”
