Aleix Martinez (1992) began his dance studies in his hometown of Barcelona, where he started to collaborate in various productions of the company of Sta. Coloma de Gramenet David Campos. In 2006, he moved to Marseille (France) to continue his artistic education combining it with training at others international institutions and schools such as The Place, in London or Rosella Hightower (Cannes). In 2008, he continued his training at the Hamburg Ballet School, under the direction of John Neumeier, where later became a member of the Company, and since 2020 was named first soloist.

He has received several national and international prizes and recognitions, including the Prix de Lausanne 2008, the Positano Leonide Massine Prize 2008, the “Friends of Honor” prize awarded by the Casa de la Danza, Logroño, the Oberdorffer Price in 2014.

He has worked closely with the choreographer John Neumeier, creating several works especially for him, such as Anna Karenina (2017), Beethoven Project I (2019), Beethoven Project II (2021) or Dona Nobis Pacem (2022), among others, while working independently with various international choreographers including Thiago Bordin, Yuka Oishi and Marco Guido.

As a choreographer, he debuted in 2012 with “Trencadis”, a piece created for the Hamburg Shauspielhaus, for which he received the “Tanz” award in the “Young Talent” category. Since then, he has worked independently with numerous festivals and social projects, producing “Le surréalisme c’est moi” (2014), for the Sant Pere de Rodes Festival, “Origens” (2015), for the Gong Festival or “Horitzons” (2018) humanitarian project in favor of the OPEN ARMS association.

In 2016, he began an artistic residence with the Trintla Cultura Festival (Germany), in which he developed and presented several projects, while collaborating annually in the social project “Salon Kleiner Michel”, an artistic platform of the city of Hamburg.

As a resident artist of the Hamburg Ballett, he works annually in the program “Junge Choreographen”.

In 2018 he founded “ManNera”, a dance company with which he develops new concepts and artistic projects, prioritizing creative exploration as a growth engine, using movement as a basis to develop philosophical and artistic concepts, bringing them closer to a plastic dimension through the interaction between different visual arts and artists. In 2019, he was commissioned to present the Hamburg Ballet internationally in London, creating “Seelen Spiel” for International Draft Works, within the inaugural program of the new space The Limbury Theater.

“Shakespeare Sonnets (2019), his first creation for the Hamburg Ballett, was premiered at the Hamburg State Opera, opening the 45th edition of the “Hamburger Ballett Tage” Festival.

In 2020, he began an artistic residency with the PoolHaus Blankenese/Hamburg Foundation, institution that hosted the premiere of Bunker (2021), a concept co-produced by the Antoni Tàpies Foundation (Barcelona), the Hamburg Kunsthalle and the PoolHaus Foundation. “POLS”, his most recent creation, was presented last July 2022 at the Franquesa Festival , a work with the collaborations of l’Esbart Catala de Dansaires, the Falcons of Barcelona and the Gegants of Santa Coloma of Gramenet.
